How To Download
How do you download a file?

By "downloading" we mean a method to get digital information from a remote computer, and saving a copy of it ONTO YOUR OWN COMPUTER. The purpose of downloading is to have a permanent copy of the information, to save access and printing time.

  1. First, place your cursor over the link from which you want to download.

  2. Windows users: Click your right mouse button. A pop-up box appears.

  3. save target asMacintosh users: Click and hold the mouse button until the pop-up box appears.
  4. Select the option "Save Target As" (in Firefox it will be "Save Link As").

  5. What happens next depends on the settings of your computer. Sometimes another pop-up box will appear, titled "Save As", asking you to approve or change the location and name of the file. Sometimes it is set to avoid the question and save automatically to a pre-define location, such as the desktop or "My Documents".

  6. You can accept the current file name, or rename the file. If you rename the file, make sure the "extension" (the 3 or 4 letters after the dot at the end) stays the same. For instance if it was named x.PDF, you can change it to 1234.PDF or aaa.PDF, etc.

  7. The computer sometimes shows a download progress bar. If you're using Firefox, press Ctrl+J and you will see how long you should wait for the download to complete. Wait a moment for this to have an accurate estimate.

  8. Once the computer tells you that the download has been completed, find the file (don't ask me where it is now on your computer, if you cannot find it retrace your steps or ask for local help).

  9. In your local hard drive, click on the file name to start reading and printing.

  10. If you have chosen to download the BOOKS FOR OFFLINE READING, they are provided in a single self-extracting package. This means that after you download the file, you do not need an extracting (unzip) software. Just click the file and follow the instructions on the screen.

Things to remember:
  • Download problems? It may be a momentary overload. Please try again shortly. We are constantly improving our servers to enable more simultaneous downloads.

  • If you're still getting error messages or cannot access the information, in most cases it's a local problem with your computer or internet connection. Please get help from a friend or from your computer vendor.

  • We have found that sometimes download and usage problems have been solved simply by using Firefox as your browser instead of Internet Explorer. Get it free at
    www.GetFirefox.com

  • Downloading our large downloads should not take over a minute or two (per book) with a fast connection in the USA, and possibly a few minutes with a fast connection in remote countries such as Australia. With slow connections such as dial-up or satellite, it should take up to 30 minutes or so.

  • If this does not happen, ask for help from your local Internet provider or computer vendor. We cannot solve local computer problems. What we HAVE DONE is set up what's called a "dedicated server" (web computer not shared with anyone else). This ensures that our traffic never gets blocked by other websites.

While normal websites are hosted with Internet hosting companies for $3-$10 a month, we are paying over $300 a month to provide you with the smoothest, fastest downloading experience money can buy! We also check our server daily for proper operation, especially the download files. So if you're having problems, with all due respect, it's not likely on our end.

I'm not sure if this impresses you or not, but unlike common practices on the Internet, our web server has ZERO DOWN TIME. Not "near zero", simply zero downtime, period.

If you're experiencing problems please try again later. Report to our Help Desk any problem that you believe is on our end; however if we check it here in real time and find it functioning ok, the problem is local and beyond our control. Our web server is installed in a highly secured location in San Francisco and connected right into the fastest and largest communication lines that lead to the rest of the world. Therefore if our website is fully operational, the problem is most probably outside of California.

  • To READ PDF e-books and documents you need the FREE "Acrobat Reader", preferably the latest version; if you don't have it yet, click here to get the reader (don't pay for anything, just get the free reader).

  • Printing is up to you. We recommend NOT to print the entire book, to save paper and color ink.  Print those chapters that need to be given to the mechanic, or be taken down to your workshop, etc. However if you're uncomfortable with reading from the computer screen, print the entire book(s).

Printing from your local hard drive will be much smoother than off the Internet, and will not be interrupted due to Internet connectivity problems.

  • If you have questions not answered here contact our Help Desk. Thank you!
